Practice Overview
Varsha Gumashta brings together a unique blend of legal expertise, regulatory strategy, and cross-sectoral experience, shaping a career that spans the legal profession, academia, public law advocacy, and media & technology advisory. As Practice Co-Chair at Clavius Legal, she advises multinational corporations, media conglomerates, technology firms, financial institutions, and public institutions on issues at the intersection of law, policy, and business strategy.
With an LL.M. in Human Rights Law from Queen Mary University of London and a strong background in constitutional and regulatory practice, Varsha has built a reputation for navigating complex statutory frameworks and delivering innovative, business-focused solutions in high-stakes matters. Her expertise covers media and broadcasting regulation, telecom licensing, data protection, content governance, ESG mandates, digital economy regulation, and constitutional challenges.
Her professional background, which includes leadership roles in policy advocacy, regulatory advisory, and media-sector engagements, gives her a practical understanding of commercial dynamics in fast-evolving industries. This enables her to deliver solution-driven counsel to clients navigating regulatory risk, market entry, cross-border compliance, and disputes at the interface of law, policy, and commerce.
She appears before constitutional courts, regulators, and appellate bodies, and is regularly engaged for strategic advisory mandates, policy interventions, and compliance frameworks that demand a balance of legal rigour and commercial pragmatism.
Previously, Varsha was Assistant Director at the Centre for Constitutional Rights, Human Rights Law Network (Delhi), where she worked on matters involving environmental justice, LGBTQI rights, refugee protection, climate change, and housing rights, and organized a national conference on the implementation of the Forest Rights Act and tribal evictions. Earlier, she served as a Research-cum-Teaching Assistant at Dharmashastra National Law University, Jabalpur, teaching Law and Social Transformation and Family Law, and contributing to scholarship in public law.
